My adventure in the Windows world didn’t last half as long as I thought it would. I have switched back to Mac and loving every bit of it. Here is a bit of a back ground:
As a real estate agent, a notebook computer is one of the most important tools of the trade for me. Unfortunately, our local boards tied themselves up with a MLS provider that has tied it’s offerings to ActiveX and Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher. As most Apple enthusiasts know, Microsoft has not release Internet Explore since 5.something. As such, when I started in real estate, I was looking at either switching to a Windows machine completely or try to run Windows as a virtual system on my iBook.
At that time, my iBook was about 2 years old, and the virtualization software was woefully inadequate. So I bought a Gateway laptop running Windows Vista and had that for about two months, before it simply died on me. I returned that under extended warranty by the retailer and purchased a Toshiba laptop.
The Toshiba was of much better quality and lasted me till last month. I used it for almost 8 months and was satisfied with it, but a part of me always wanted to play with my iBook more than I was.
I paid a visit to the local Simply Computing store and looked at a brand spanking new MacBook Pro and gave virtualization a try again. Oh, what a difference one year had made. Windows were much snappier, I had no issues accessing our MLS system.
It was really an easy decision, I traded my iBook for the MacBook Pro and sold the Toshiba on craigslist. And I couldn’t be happier. About the only thing I missed was Microsoft Live Writer for blogging, but with Windows running so much faster (incidentally, did you know that the MacBook Pro was judged to be fastest Windows Vista machine by PC Magazine last year?), I can have Live Writer too!
It really is the best of both worlds!
